Update:

49ers RB Matt Breida and TE George Kittle are both dealing with separated shoulders, according to HC Kyle Shanahan and won’t return until Week 1, per Joe Fann.

Matt Maiocco reports that 49ers TE George Kittle’s right shoulder injury is not too serious and most likely just a sprain that could keep him out a couple of weeks.

Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport report that 49ers RB Matt Breida’s MRI showed no structural damage to his should and the team is hopeful he can rest and be ready for Week 1.

Following Thursday’s preseason game, 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan told reporters that TE George Kittle and RB Matt Breida, both of whom had shoulder injuries, are going to miss “some time.”

“I have a feeling it’s going to be some time,” Shanahan said of the two players, per Matt Barrows.

With Kittle likely to miss some time, the 49ers will turn to Garrett Celek, Cole Hikutini, Cole Wick and Wes Saxton at tight end.

Kittle, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $2.69 million contract and set to make a base salary of $555,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Kittle appeared in 15 games for the 49ers and caught 43 passes for 515 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Breida, 23, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern back in May of last year. He’s in the second year of his three-year, $1.66 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $555,000 for the 2018 season.
In 2017, Breida appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and rushed for 465 yards on 105 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 180 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.
