49ers
Regarding the possibility of re-signing free agent S Eric Reid, 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said he would be welcomed back on a “minimum deal” as a backup, but does not think Reid would be interested.
“If any real good player wants to come in here on a minimum deal and have a good player to be a backup, that’d be unbelievable,” Shanahan said, via Nick Wagoner. “I don’t think that’s what Eric wants. I told you the reason we decided to go that direction is because we made a tough decision, be we had to do it. We went with [Jaquiski] Tartt. We thought that was the right way to go. You can’t give a lot of money to backups, and that’s what he would be if he came here. But, I like Eric. Eric is a good player, he’s a good person. That’d be great if we could add him to that role. I don’t think he would be that interested in it.”

Seahawks
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said he expects first-round RB Rashaad Penny to “for sure be ready for the opener.”
“He’s running around already,” Carroll said, via Pro Football Talk. “He’s back in terms of conditioning and moving and all that kind of stuff. We’re very fortunate he’s going to be able to get back right away. It’s just a matter of making sure that it’s secure and quiet it down. He’ll run all week long and he could be ready for next week, for sure be ready for the opener.”
- Brady Henderson of ESPN reports that Seahawks’ recently signed LB Erik Walden‘s one-year deal is worth $1.105 million, includes $50,000 guaranteed, and costs $720,000 against the cap.
- Walden’s deal carries a base salary of $1.015 million; a $50,000 signing bonus; and another $40,000 roster bonus if on the 53-man roster in Week 1.
Rams
Rams DC Wade Phillips said they’re moving DE Dominique Easley to outside linebacker this preseason, which should help him as returns from another injury.
“Because of his history, I think it’s easier outside,” Phillips said of the move, via TheRams.com. “You’re not pounding against a 300-and-some-pound guy, which he did normally. He played a lot of inside.”
“I think this gives him a little more freedom to utilize his abilities. We even played Mario Williams at outside ‘backer. A real strong player can play that position and, again, not have as much wear and tear.”

- McVay added that the Rams did not workout Galette and the decision against signing him had nothing to do with his physical. (Vincent Bonsignore)
