49ers
49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo says his surgically repaired knee “feels good” and he’s happy with where he is in his recovery.
“It feels good,” Garoppolo said, via NBC Bay Area. “Obviously there are some things that we’re limited with. The side-to-side lateral stuff is still questionable but I’m happy where I’m at now.”
Garoppolo added that he can’t wait to get back to his normal routine and return to the practice field.
“Getting out on the field,” Garoppolo said. “It’s been a while. It’s that feeling of getting out there with the guys and being in the huddle. Just little things like that. You miss a full season of it, you realize how much you really appreciate it when you do have it.”
- 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Monday that he doesn’t foresee any significant changes on his staff and added that Robert Saleh will be back as defensive coordinator. (Matt Barrows)
- 49ers G Laken Tomlinson suffered a torn MCL and will miss three months.
Cardinals
-
Sources close to the situation tell Albert Breer that Jim Caldwell is expected to get consideration for the Cardinals’ head-coaching job.
-
Breer adds that Mike McCarthy is another name to watch for the Cardinals.
-
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Cardinals considered making a run at hiring Bengals HC Marvin Lewis last year where the overall expectation was that the two parties were going to part ways.
- Florio mentions that Lewis apparently has a retirement home in Phoenix and it’s possible he could be considered as a replacement for Steve Wilks, who is expected to be fired.
- Jim Trotter reports that the Cardinals have “strong interest” in Mike McCarthy, but it’s unlikely the two parties are a match. Trotter says that McCarthy has family considerations that are likely to keep him closer to Green Bay.
Packers
-
Rob Demovsky reports that the Packers’ coaching staff won’t be fired, but will be informed Monday that their services will not be needed until the team has hired their next head coach.
-
Demovsky mentions that most of Mike McCarthy’s staff are under contract for the 2019 season, which means the next head coach will have to decide who, if any, will be retained.
