49ers
- Matt Maiocco of NBC Bay Area mentions that South Carolina WR Deebo Samuel and Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown are worth keeping an eye on in the second round for the 49ers.
- Maiocco writes that 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch won’t be on the hot seat next season unless the team dramatically underachieves.
- If all four of RBs Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert stay healthy, Maiocco thinks Breida is the odd-man out on gameday active rosters because of Mostert’s ability on special teams.
Jimmy Garoppolo
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan says he’s optimistic QB Jimmy Garoppolo (ACL) will be full-go in training camp.
“It’s very controlled movements and stuff,” Shanahan said, via NBC Bay Area. “When he does all that it does look very good, which means he’s getting closer. And that’s why hopefully it will be full-go for training camp and I think we will get a lot of work with him in OTAs also.”
Seahawks
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll says the plan is to play both K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks on the field at the same time even though both are better suited for the weak-side linebacker position.
“Really looking forward to the combination of the three guys playing together,” Carroll said via Pro Football Talk. “I don’t think we’ve ever been better. When that all comes together — we’ve got all kinds of ideas and things we want to do with those guys to use their strengths.”
“That flexibility is going to give an added dimension to us, we’ll be able to move those guys around. The plan is absolutely to play them at the same time,” Carroll continued.
The Seahawks could also be limited by what each player prefers to do.
“I’m not going to SAM,” Wright said. “If the SAM is off the ball, I’ll go to SAM but I’ve got to be off the ball. They’ve got to get creative with how they utilize everyone. But me on the ball is no-go.”
