49ers
- 49ers Kyle Shanahan said he hasn’t decided yet whether the team will keep two or three quarterbacks on their roster: “I know there’s three guys I’d like to keep but that has to do with D-linemen, receivers, running backs, safeties, everybody. That’s why you don’t decide until the 53.” (Nick Wagoner)
-
Jenna Laine reports that former Dolphins OL coach Chris Foerster has accepted a position with the 49ers. Laine adds that Foerster assists the coaching staff with game-planning.
-
According to Laine, Foerster was actually hired during the offseason, but the move was never announced or mentioned on their website.
Cardinals
-
Cardinals GM Steve Keim said (via AzCardinals.com) that while newly signed WR Michael Crabtree isn’t “blazing” in his speed, he’s a crafty route runner who is “very sudden” in and out of breaks: “There is no doubt he is going to catch a lot of balls.“
- Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury said of Crabtree: “I think he’s been a very productive player in this league,” Kingsbury said. “Very savvy, mentally tough player, plays physical, brings a lot for our young receivers to learn from and be around. We’re excited about him.”
-
Regarding the recent trade for DL Bruce Hector, Keim said: “To find a young defensive lineman to give depth and play in the rotation is a real plus.”
-
Keim didn’t rule out trading or claiming a cornerback with Patrick Peterson suspended and Robert Alford injured.
Seahawks
- Seahawks HC Pete Carroll told reporters on Friday that DE Ziggy Ansah has a chance to return to practice next week. According to Carroll, Ansah’s shoulder is now fine and it’s actually the groin tweak he’s working his way back from. (Curtis Crabtree)
- Carroll mentioned that rookie WR D.K. Metcalf will be active and doing stuff next week. Metcalf has had no swelling in his knee since undergoing surgery. (Curtis Crabtree)
- According to Carroll, WR David Moore has a shoulder injury and he’s “going to be out for a bit.” (John Boyle)
- Tom Pelissero reports that Moore is getting a second opinion on a shoulder injury that is not expected to require surgery.
- Carroll also said he expects both Mike Iupati and George Fant to be ready for the regular-season opener and first-round DE L.J. Collier is getting closer to return and will ramp up his work next week. (Bob Condotta)
- Veteran TE Ed Dickson is “still aways away” from returning.
