Cowboys
- Cowboys WR Dez Bryant said he’s been cleared to practice, but the coaching staff will remain cautious with him by holding him out until training camp. (Clarence Hill)
- According to David Moore, the Cowboys expected and were hopeful that ILB Rolando McClain was going to show up at some point in the past two weeks. However, he has yet to report to the team.
- Cowboys HC Jason Garrett said that he doesn’t know if McClain will be at the team’s minicamp this week.
- This comes just a day after Bryan Broaddus mentioned that the Cowboys’ coaches are “not happy” with McClain.
Falcons
Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan explained that the decision to part ways with veteran WR Roddy White wasn’t a personal. (D. Orlando Ledbetter)
“Anytime that you have to move on from a veteran, especially one like Roddy, who’s been so good and has meant so much to the organization, it very rarely goes smoothly,” Shanahan said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “You’re talking about a guy’s lively hood and stuff.”
“Things get somewhat personal” Shanahan added. “I know it wasn’t personal. I’m not going to make it personal. I respect the hell out of Roddy. I understand the situation. It’s just a tough thing that we have to do. It’s a tough decision that the organization had to make. I hope as time passes, it can get a little easier. I do respect Roddy as a player and as a guy. I hope as time goes, he understands that.”
Packers
Current Seahawks GM John Schneider and former Packers executive explained in an interview with Peter Schrager of FOX Sports how a mock draft from Mike Mayock back in 2005 led to them exploring the possibility that QB Aaron Rodgers could fall to them at No. 24 overall.
“I think it was the Thursday before the draft started, Ted and I were sitting there watching film and we had a TV on and Mike Mayock was going through a mock draft. And he had Aaron — because it was like if you got past 12 or 14, right in there, all those teams in there had quarterbacks.
So we looked at each other like, ‘That could happen.”
“We literally went and pulled all the [Rodgers] tape we possibly could and sat there and went through it again. Because sometimes when you’re picking [later in the round] you don’t spend as much time with those players that you expect to be gone.
“So we had to review everything, go back through his character. And once [San Francisco] took Alex and [Rodgers] started falling, that’s when I was on the horn with Scot [McLoughlan] and Mike McCarthy because of those guys had spent so much time with both of them.
“After we picked him, everybody was really excited and [Packers President] Bob Harlan came up to me and said, ‘This guy’s going to be a good player, right John?’
“I was like, “Yeah, Bob! He’s going to be a great player.'”
“And his first minicamp was something to behold, man. He was unbelievable in his first camp.”
