China

While the NFL had plans to have a game be played in China during the 2018 regular season, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com writes that there is a reason there has not been much talk about this occurring.

Breer writes that one reason scheduling a game in China is such a challenge is the logistics. He states that the long flights would be hard to fit into an NFL team’s schedule.

Another potential issue that Breer discusses is whether or not the NFL would be able to sell out a game in China, and even if they did, he wonders if the growth would be substantial enough where the NFL could play two or three games there annually.

Lastly, Breer points out the human rights issue, which came up during the Beijing Olympics. He mentions that the NFL is not taking this issue lightly.

When asked about the likelihood of the game being scheduled, NFL executive VP of international Mark Waller said: “I would say there’s a low likelihood of it happening. But we are working hard to see if we can make it work.”

Waller believes that it will probably be another two months before the NFL is ready to make a decision regarding China.

Jaguars

When the Jaguars take the field Sunday in London, Albert Breer writes that all eyes will be on Head Coach Gus Bradley, whose team has started off the season 0-3.

  • He writes that there is a strong feeling inside the Jaguars building that the talent on the roster is good enough to win now.
  • Breer believes that the talk of firing Bradley is a bit premature and goes on to discuss how Owner Shad Khan has been very patient and is not likely to make a franchise-shifting decision until he has reason to do so.
  • As of now, Breer does not think the team’s performance in the first four games is enough to warrant a change.
  • Breer also points out how Gus Bradley’s teams are better after the bye week (9-14) than before it (3-25).

Jets

  • While Albert Breer believes that the Jets are certainly taking a chance on tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, he says that New York’s interest didn’t come out of nowhere.
  • Breer mentions that the Jets discussed making a trade for the tight end back in August and have done a lot of work on him.
  • According to Breer, the Jets believe that they have the right influence for Seferian-Jenkins in Brandon Marshall, who has been nothing but a positive force in the locker room.
  • It’s worth mentioning that the Jets will owe Seferian-Jenkins just $557,969 for the remainder of this season and could have him under team control in 2017 for $1.14 million.

LSU

Albert Breer offers up some potential NFL coaches worth keeping an eye on in regards to the LSU head-coaching vacancy.

According to Breer, the list of NFL coaches who could end up being possible candidates include:

  • 49ers QB coach Ryan Day
  • Bears RB Coach Stan Drayton
  • Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey
  • Browns associate head coach Pep Hamilton
  • Jaguars offensive line coach Doug Marrone
  • Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay
  • Jaguars offensive coordinator Greg Olson
  • Dolphins special teams coach Darren Rizzi
  • Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan
  • Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula
  • Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel
