49ers
According to HC Kyle Shanahan, the team will consider carrying four running backs on its active, gameday roster.
“I think we’re in a situation right now, just looking at our roster, that I think it could make a lot of sense this year,” Shanahan said via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The 49ers already had RBs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida on the roster before signing free agent RB Tevin Coleman from the Falcons and extending restricted free agent RB Raheem Mostert for three years.
But injuries at running back hurt San Francisco last year. Breida battled injuries throughout 2018, Moster broke his forearm and McKinnon is still recovering from a torn ACL.
Chargers
Former Panthers LB Thomas Davis says experience is at the top of the list of things he can bring to his new team.
“When you look at this roster and the guys they have on this team and how well they play together, I just feel like I can come in and be an added piece, offer some veteran wisdom, veteran leadership and just really try to get these guys over the hump so I’m looking forward to being a part of this locker room,” Davis said via Pro Football Talk.
Davis, who’s one of the few NFL players to successfully recover from three ACL tears, is also expected to be a positive influence for LB Denzel Perryman, who’s missed 16 games to injury the past two seasons.
Seahawks
Before re-signing to a two-year deal with the Seahawks, LB K.J. Wright was already preparing to say goodbye to Seattle, especially after the signing of LB Mychal Kendricks.
“I thought ‘[I’m] toast,’” Wright said via Pro Football Talk. “I honestly thought I was leaving,” Wright said. “I thought I was gone. I was prepping my family. But they found something to make me happy, and I was like, ‘This is a perfect fit for me. Let’s get rolling.’”
